Traditional Talk Therapy
Traditional talk therapy, often referred to as psychotherapy, seeks to help an individual make meaning out of their trauma and experiences. Through compassionate conversation, we can help you reframe the ways in which you see and interact with yourself, your relationships, and the world at large. Whereas other approaches at Emovere might focus on the physical sensations associated with a traumatic experience, talk therapy aims to bring awareness to the emotions and thought patterns. Together, we can bring hope back into the conversation.SCHEDULE A SESSION
When an individual experiences trauma, the fight/flight response can get trapped in the body, keeping that person stuck reliving the experience. With somatic experiencing, a body-focused therapeutic approach founded by Dr. Peter Levine, the body is used as a resource to get to the root of the trauma, release the pent-up survival energy and the associated emotions, and bring the whole person back to a state of balance. Emovere provides a secure environment for you to move through the difficult bodily sensations and suppressed emotions that might arise through somatic exercises as you work to re-establish your mind/body connection and heal from your past.SCHEDULE A SESSION
“Trauma is not what happens to us, but what we hold inside in the absence of an empathetic witness.”— Peter Levine
We firmly believe that you are a beautiful being comprised of mind, body, and spirit. Dance/movement therapy aims to integrate the connection between all of these parts of you so that you might move through emotions and move closer to your higher self.
Absolutely anyone can benefit from the creative self-exploration and self-expression that accompanies this therapeutic approach, including individuals who struggle with anxiety and/or depression, individuals with trauma or PTSD, and individuals with chronic body tension or pain. Dance/movement therapy can also serve to improve body compassion and self-esteem, develop more effective communication skills, and gain insight into patterns or behaviors. Our bodies are wired for movement and emotions, and we believe in cultivating that inherent programming as a catalyst for your healing.
Note: You do not need any experience or formal training in dance to benefit from dance/movement therapy. DMT is also accessible to all people, able-bodied or otherwise.SCHEDULE A SESSION
“Everything in the universe has a rhythm; everything dances.”-Maya Angelou
Authentic movement is a spontaneous moving meditation that can bring you directly in touch with your psyche, soul, and active imagination. When you inhabit your body in this new way– free of shame and judgment and with unlimited exploration– you can learn to trust your own bodily intuition and operate from a place of grounded activation.
It may take several sessions to get comfortable in your own skin, but with our patient guidance and empathetic witnessing, you can learn to give rise to your innate bodily wisdom once again. You will allow your movement to unfold freely and naturally, ending your session with a discussion about the possible meaning of your movements.SCHEDULE A SESSION
Yoga is not just an exercise beneficial to the body. It is an embodiment of mental focus and spiritual connection, and we are happy to offer it at Emovere as a supplement to your healing journey. We provide a safe and non-competitive space to explore yourself and become a student of your own body. By combining our expertise in trauma, authentic movement, eating disorders, and yoga, we craft a yoga experience unique to the healing process that you need at a given moment in time. See our Workshops page for current groups or class offerings.SCHEDULE AN INDIVIDUAL SESSION
“Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we’re supposed to be and embracing who we are.”— Brené Brown
Developmental Transformations, DvT for short, is a form of drama therapy that uses elements of improv, roleplay, imagination, and metaphor within the therapeutic relationship. This form is helpful for processing trauma, attachment, anxiety, depression, and other mental health struggles, as well as used in non-clinical settings for personal growth and exploration. DvT can be described as a sort of embodied free association. It is often described as feeling dreamlike as the topics, themes, and feelings that emerge in the play can be understood on many levels.SCHEDULE A SESSION
